Plant design
that works.

Plant consulting, interior plant design, sourcing, installation, and maintenance for homes, offices, and small outdoor spaces across Southern California. Practical plant choices for real rooms, real light, real schedules, and the climate we actually live in.

Plants look best when they make sense where they live.

I care about the whole situation: light, heat, watering habits, pets, airflow, containers, soil, and how much attention the plants will realistically get. The goal is not a showroom moment that fades. The goal is a planted space that settles in and keeps getting better.

A note on travel

I am based in Orange County and can work farther out when the project makes sense. Drive time, sourcing time, delivery, and installation logistics are discussed clearly before anything starts.

Bryan has spent more than 15 years working with plants, including professional experience in interiorscapes, retail nurseries, sourcing, client consultations, community gardens, and hands-on installations across Southern California.

His interest in ecosystems started early: aquariums, California native habitats, desert plants, and a lifelong curiosity about how living systems hold together. Growing up in California and traveling through its deserts, mountains, coastlines, chaparral, and urban edges gave him a real feel for the state's unusual biodiversity — and what actually thrives here versus what just slowly fades.

Bry Rip Plant Works brings that background into homes, offices, patios, and small commercial spaces. The work is practical, science-minded, and based on how plants actually respond to their environment. A successful planting depends on the full picture: light, water, soil, airflow, container size, maintenance rhythm, plant selection, and the actual habits of the person living with it.

Plant Operations Lead

Helped run the plant side of the shop: wholesale sourcing, inventory care, display design, customer education, consultations, residential and commercial installations, school garden support, plant swaps, and community events. Worked with plants as a complete system, from sourcing and display through customer education, installation, and long-term care.

Plant Affair · Los Angeles Interiorscape maintenance

Plant Technician

Learned plant care through active client sites and real maintenance problems: how plants respond to light, water, soil, airflow, containers, pests, temperature, neglect, and human behavior. That experience shaped the practical approach behind the work now.

Plant Consultant & Designer

Bringing 15+ years of plant knowledge into homes, offices, patios, and small commercial spaces through intelligent plant selection, realistic care planning, and design built around the whole system.

Working Philosophy
I.

Conditions First

Every project starts with a read of the space: light, airflow, temperature, pets, watering habits, maintenance tolerance. Plant selection follows from that — not the other way around.

II.

Health Over Trend

Working with plants is like baking a cake — the proportions matter. Too much water, too little light, the wrong soil, or the wrong plant in the wrong room makes the whole thing fall flat. Get the conditions right and the design takes care of itself.

III.

Honest Advice

I will tell you when a plant is a bad fit. Buying the right plant once and understanding what it needs is always a better outcome than replacing the wrong one three times. Good plant design should look alive because it is alive.

Community Work

Plant work does not stop at interiors.

Bryan's plant work has always extended into schools, community gardens, plant education, reuse, and local sourcing. Much of this happened through Planta in Highland Park — connecting people with plant knowledge, supporting teachers and students, and keeping plant culture practical and accessible.

Plant Swaps & Events

At Planta, Bryan helped organize community plant swaps, presentations, and educational events that became a meaningful part of the local plant community. These events brought collectors, beginners, gardeners, teachers, growers, nursery owners, and specialists into the same room. People traded cuttings, shared uncommon plants, asked care questions, and learned through direct exchange. Planta also hosted low- or no-cost presentations with experts in California native plants, horticulture, orchids, ferns, soil, ecology, nursery growing, and low-waste living, bringing serious plant knowledge into an accessible neighborhood setting.

Reuse & Waste

Planta maintained a free reuse area for grower pots, spray bottles, saucers, hangers, packing supplies, and pallets — useful materials that would otherwise go to the dumpster. The shop ran @throwinglessaway to share those materials with the neighborhood, and hosted a zero-waste workshop series with Cindy Villaseñor of Enrich LA on practical, everyday waste reduction.

Local Sourcing

Planta stocked accessories from local makers whenever it made sense — macramé hangers in organic cotton from Perennial Parenthood, a local customer-turned-vendor; mounted plants from Joyce Chung, made in LA using reclaimed wood from a nearby furniture company. Most plants were grown in Southern California, and a portion came from Growing Works in Ventura, a wholesale nursery connected to a Turning Point Foundation job-training program that supports people with mental health challenges through horticultural work.

Services

Plant design, consulting,
and care that fits the space.

Every service is built around practical plant selection: the right plant for the light, the conditions, the space, and the person who will actually live with it.

01

Plant House Calls

02

Interior Plant Design & Installation

Design · Sourcing · Install

For homes, apartments, offices, and rentals. I assess the space, design a plant layout, source the plants and containers, and install everything with the actual room in mind: light, traffic, pets, watering access, furniture, and long-term care.

  • Design plan
  • Plant selection
  • Container selection
  • Wholesale sourcing
  • Delivery and installation
  • Placement and styling
  • Written care guide

Design, sourcing, installation, and larger projects are estimated after the initial conversation.

03

Plants for Offices & Small Businesses

Commercial · Ongoing

For therapists, studios, retail shops, salons, waiting rooms, and small offices. I select durable plants that can handle commercial conditions, then build a maintenance plan so the space stays alive instead of becoming another neglected office planting.

  • Commercial plant selection
  • Sourcing and delivery
  • Delivery, installation, and placement
  • Maintenance planning
  • Monthly checkup option
  • Plant replacement guidance

Commercial projects are estimated after the initial conversation. Monthly maintenance is available when it makes sense for the space.

04

Native & Climate-Appropriate Plant Consulting

Outdoor · Patio · Native

California native and climate-appropriate plant planning for patios, balconies, small yards, slopes, containers, and low-water outdoor spaces. I help build plant palettes suited to Southern California: dry summers, marine layer, reflected heat, compacted soil, shade pockets, and limited water.

  • Site walk-through

05

Plant Maintenance & Follow-Up Care

Ongoing · Monthly

For keeping plants healthy after installation, or for any space that has accumulated plants and needs regular professional attention. Monthly or seasonal visits can cover pruning, repotting, pest monitoring, soil refreshes, watering adjustments, and plant replacement guidance.
