Description
A feathery multi-stemmed palm that brings the classic indoor palm look without the brutal stiffness of some other species. Healthy plants read soft and fountain-like, with many narrow leaflets arching from clustered canes.
Care
- Light: Bright indirect light keeps it fuller and greener.
- Water: Water when the top inch or two dries; do not let it sit in water.
- Soil & potting: Well-draining houseplant mix with good drainage.
- Humidity & temperature: Appreciates average to slightly elevated humidity.
- Feeding: Light feeding during active growth.
- Repotting / propagation: Does not like rough root disturbance.
Propagation
Usually by division of clumps or by seed in production settings. Division is possible but slower and messier than with simpler clumping plants. See Propagation Basics.
Toxicity
Generally treated as pet-safe. Areca palm is widely listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs.
