Description
A wiry desert cholla with many thin pencil-like branches and narrow stem segments. It looks more finely branched than the heavier chollas, with a sparse, angular silhouette.
Wildlife & pollinators
Flowers feed native bees and cactus-associated insects. The spiny structure offers cover for small desert animals.
Habitat & range
Mojave and Colorado Desert flats, washes, rocky slopes, bajadas, and desert scrub.
In the garden
For serious desert cactus gardens only. Give it heat, mineral soil, excellent drainage, and distance from paths.
