Description
A small, gray-green plant of salty wet ground, with narrow leaves and tiny white to pinkish flowers. It often forms subtle patches that are easy to walk past until the flowers catch the light.
Wildlife & pollinators
Small bees and flies visit the flowers. Its ecological value is as part of the low, salt-tolerant wetland ground layer.
Habitat & range
Alkali flats, salt marsh margins, saline wet meadows, and drying wetland edges across coastal and inland Southern California.
In the garden
Mostly for specialized restoration or demonstration plantings. It wants open, sunny, salty or alkaline soil and seasonal moisture.
Propagation
From seed or small divisions where appropriate. Restoration material should be locally sourced because wetland soil chemistry is highly site-specific.

Problems
Usually not pest-prone. It fails when planted into soil that is too shaded, rich, or fresh.
