Description
Not a grass, despite the name: a small iris relative with narrow grasslike leaves and delicate blue-purple flowers with yellow centers.

Flowers attract small native bees and other spring insects.

Grasslands, meadows, oak woodland openings, and seasonally moist places across California.
In the garden
Lovely in meadow plantings, between bunchgrasses, or at the edge of a path where small flowers can be seen. It appreciates winter moisture and can tolerate summer dry-down.
Propagation
From seed or division. Divide clumps in cool weather.
