Big Bear

The San Bernardino Mountains around Big Bear Lake (~6,750 ft) — a "sky island" of cool montane conifer forest sitting above the SoCal lowlands, with a dry, desert-facing back side that drops into pinyon-juniper and sagebrush. A completely different flora from the coast: pines, firs, manzanita, and Great Basin shrubs.
